Principal categories of stainless steel

There are three principal categories of stainless steel – ferritical, martensitical, austenitical.

Ferritical steel is magnetic and haves a low content of carbon and contain chrome as the main element, in general in proportion of 13% and 17%. Martensitical steel is magnetic, having a typical content of 12% chrome and a medium content of carbon. Austenitical steel is non-magnetic and, beside chrome, it contains typical concentrations of 18% nickel, which grows up resistance to corrosion.
These are the most used types of stainless steel.
